K10: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck by Jeff Kinney

The Kidliterati Ten is an interview series with young readers. We ask them about a favorite book and hope that you enjoy their answers.

Tell us a little about yourself: what is your first name, how old are you, and what is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
My name is Andrew, I’m 11 years old and my favorite ice cream is chocolate peanut butter.

What book did you read and why did you choose it?
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck

Can you describe this book in one word?
Funny!

What was your favorite part of this story?
When Greg ran from the Mingo kids in the woods.

If you had a problem similar to the main character's problem, what would you do?
I’d stop using the magic 8 ball!

What would you say to your best friend to convince them to read this book?
It’s hilarious.

What do you think about the book's cover?
It tells a lot about the story.

Would you want to read another book about these characters? Why or why not?

Yes, because this is the eighth book and I like the series.

Can you name another book that reminds you of this one?
The Big Nate books.

If you could ask the author one question about this book, what would it be?
How did you come up with the characters? Especially Greg.

Author Jeff Kinney answered a similar question during an interview with Your Local Guardian.co.uk. Here was his response:

Most children's literature features a protagonist who is heroic and courageous. I wasn't like that as a kid. I wanted to create a character who was imperfect and relatable.

Thank you Andrew for sharing Greg's story with the Kidliterati!

  2. This was a gift for my son. He devoured it just as fast as the other books in this series.

This is the series that finally caught my son's attention enough to actually ask for books to read!

    Thank you Mr. Kinney!
