K 10: Boys Who Rocked The World: Michelle Roehm McCann

The Kidliterati Ten is an interview series with young readers. We ask them about a favorite book and hope that you enjoy their answers.

Tell us a little about yourself: what is your first name, how old are you, and what is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Jack, 11, Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz

What book did you read and why did you choose it?
Can you describe this book in one word?
I read Boys Who Rocked the World. I started reading it because my mom gave it to me. One word I would use is interesting.

What was your favorite part of this story?
The chapter about Pele, because he’s a famous soccer player and I really want to be a professional soccer player when I grow up.

If you had a problem similar to the main character's problem, what would you do?
There’s not a main character because each chapter is about a famous person in history, like Crazy Horse.

What would you say to your best friend to convince them to read this book?
Because it’s a good book and you can learn a lot about cool people.

What do you think about the book's cover?
I think it is a little weird how the guys are all playing instruments.

Would you want to read another book about these characters? Why or why not?
Yes, if it was about different people though.

Can you name another book that reminds you of this one?
Not really.

What was one interesting thing you learned from this book?
Bruce Lee died because he had a headache and he took a pill that he was allergic too and it made his brain swell up and killed him.

What's next on your list to read?
I'm really, really excited to read Poached by Stuart Gibb because I laughed so much when I read Belly Up and it takes place in the same amusement park as that one, so I can't wait to see what it's about.

Thanks for being with us Jack!

Boys Who Rocked The World
This engaging and thought-provoking collection of influential stories provides forty-six illustrated examples of strong, independent male role models, all of whom first impacted the world as teenagers or younger. This updated and expanded edition of Boys Who Rocked the World encompases a variety of achievements, interests, and backgrounds, from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Steve Jobs to Crazy Horse and Stephen King—each with his own incredible story of how he created life-changing opportunities for himself and the world. Personal aspirations from today’s young men are interspersed throughout the book, which also includes profiles of teenagers who are rocking the world right now—boys like John Collinson, the youngest person to climb the Seven Summits, and Alec Loorz, who founded the nonprofit organization Kids vs. Global Warming.
It’s never too soon to start making a difference, and this empowering collection of accomplished young men makes for ideal motivation.

  1. Good interview! Coffee ice cream for an 11yo is surprising! I love how you switched up the questions to ask about what he is reading next- it's a nice little plug for those books, too.
