Reaching Readers with Book Series

For every kid who loves to read, there’s like one that doesn’t. And in today’s world with so many electronic distractions, it can be difficult to get some kids to read at all.

One way to reach these readers is through book series. If a kid finds a series he or she falls in love with, they are more likely to want to keep reading more and more books in that series.

Here are my top five recommended series for young readers:

#1 Harry Potter (J.K. Rowling) Who doesn’t love Harry Potter? Witches, magic, good versus evil. Every kid must read this series.

#2 – A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine L’Engle) This wonderful classic series about time travel is sure to engage and enthrall every young reader who picks it up.

#3 – The Ramona series (Beverly Cleary) Ramona is smart, sassy, clever and hilarious. The eight books in this series were some of the first I read as a kid and spurred my love of reading. Timeless classics.

#4 – A Series of Unfortunate Events (Lemony Snicket) From book one, I was captivated. These books are smart and clever and sure to appeal to the pickiest of readers.

#5 – Charlie Bucket Series (Ronald Dahl) Okay, okay, there’s only two books in this series. But it’s Ronald Dahl! Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a timeless classic that is oh so good. This is a book that would appeal to every kid and adult and leave them wanting to read it again and again and again.
